ExperienceI'm a math tutor who helps students improve their understanding and clarity of math subjects. I have done a lot of math studying for academics, competitions, and my own enjoyment, so I have a lot of techniques I can help students learn that make understanding math easier. I believe that students truly understand subjects when they can teach and others, so I often switch roles with students and let them show me what they know about something we've been studying. I prepare diligently for tutoring sessions to ensure that we are making the best use of our time together, and I always take into account the needs and learning styles of the student when I put together these lesson plans. I'm comfortable working with students at any level of ability, whether they are struggling or looking for an extra edge on the competition. My other tutoring specialty is standardized test preparation, specifically for the SAT subject tests in math, the SAT, the ACT, and the PSAT. I provide students with strategies and explain why and how they work so that students can internalize the method and apply it critically, which is a lot more effective than trying to memorize tricks from prep books. When I'm not studying or tutoring, I play chess competitively, write, and read.
